Reception Reflections
February 8, 2009 · Comments Off

This is the poster for the show. Initial word is that the gallery had 300-500 people come through last night for the opening reception. I think that is awesome. Everyone had great pieces and I am excited to see what happens over the next month while the show is in the gallery.
I ended up having five pieces in the show.* I think they looked awesome and I am thankful to everyone that helped me get the unexptected pieces ready and up to hang.
* The back-story on this: I had originally submitted only one piece to the show. The show organizer of our group, Deborah, wanted me to bring in another peice for the other side of the wall (to balance things). She and the gallery owner, Ken Matsumoto, ended up looking at my entire portfolio (that I had brought in because it was easier to transport than just three or so pieces) for “Revered Footage of Circadian Paraphernalia“. Ken chose a few more images for me to hang…and the rest is history, as they say. I am quite thankful to both of them for encouraging me to hang more.

I am pleased to announce that I am the recipient of a $400 Encouragement Grant through the San Jose Creative Entrepreneur Project. This grant will be used to purchase editing software that I would otherwise be unable to purchase at this time.
I am extremely grateful for this grant and am excited at the opportunities that it awards me.
Ines Finals

Finally! I have had time to put up the final images from the shoot with Ines from November. Even though I was sick that day…I am happy with the three I chose.
Images Up
December 5, 2008 · Comments Off
New images up (finally, yes I know) from the shoot with Bunny DeLady back in early November. I have some more I will be putting up but, since I am sneaking on here as it is, I won’t get to them until next weekend, realistically speaking…unless I sneak on during a break.
Editing Update
November 30, 2008 · Comments Off
Yes, it has been awhile, but in that time lots of things have required my attention. Here I am, today, and I hope that is satisfactory.
I have completed editing the set of images from the two shoots a few weeks ago. Altogether, I have chosen 11 images as finals. Eight from one shoot; three from the other.
Considering my illness that weekend, I am not too worried about the lower amount of images.

Recall; To edit.
November 17, 2008 · Comments Off
Upon reflection, without calling up the image base, I believe there are about 30 images I have sorted out and want to edit. I will be doing so sometime after Wednesday of this week (prior commitments have my absolute full attention currently) and will, hopefully, finish up the editing process by the Thanksgiving holiday.
I think the next month that I can realistically set a shoot for would be January. Things are dicey in the economy so prioritization is key currently.

Networking Pt. 2
November 12, 2008 · Comments Off
Tonight was a great night in regards to networking. I was able to speak with an artist whom I had met before but, due to life being packed, had not been able to speak with intensively. I think that we’ll be meeting for coffee and such in the future and be able to network. I am truly excited.
Still sick, so I’ve not worked on the images from this weekend…I will try to do them by the end of the week but I have something else on my plate right now that is a priority- but they will definitely be looked at by the end of next week.

Quick Shoot Reflections
November 9, 2008 · Comments Off
The two shoots that I had this weekend went as well as I could have hoped, considering I am more sick than I was on Friday (even after the day of rest). The models were both fantastic and I thank them whole-heartedly for putting up with my ill self. I hope I did not scare them off of future shoots.
These two shoots were shorter and rather informal. I think that it was a bit tough for the models to gauge what I wanted because I am still learning how to express what it is that I want from a shoot. This is something I need to work on, clearly.
I need to work on getting over being shy and pushing myself out of my own comfort levels. People often think that the models are the only ones that should be shy…that is not necessarily the case. I am shy by nature and it takes a while for me to come out of my shell, especially in regards to photographing. Sure, I might talk your ear off at post-shoot lunch…but I’ll be quiet as a door mouse during the shoot.
This is all an experiment for me. I am passionate about photography, wish to pursue it, and know I will. However, there are steps that I am taking as an individual in learning how to work with other people. Working in abstracts in college wasn’t that hard for me because I didn’t feel nervous around the objects. And, I’m sorry, but I will never think of my models as objects. It just will not occur.
For my next shoot, and this will be a way off because it will require some heavy planning, I have a project that I want to see through that will involve multiple models in one shoot. I will write more about it as things develop.
For now, I will be off to attend to my illness. I will be working on this weekend’s images during the next few days.
